Data Analyst I

The Performance Audit Division evaluates state agencies and programs to determine whether, and how well, they are accomplishing their goals. The reports generated from this work are shared with the General Assembly, the Governor, governing boards and agency management. Additionally, all reports are public documents and are made available to the press.

Located at the State Capitol complex, in the heart of Atlanta, the Performance Audit Division employs entry level and experienced people with undergraduate and graduate degrees.  Current staff members hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a variety of fields including:

Major Job Duties

This is an entry-level position. Under the supervision of a lead data analyst, data analysts prepare for and complete data analytics tasks related to audits, special examinations, and other projects. An employee in this position will gain experience in data analytics and visualization. 

Data Analyst I

  • Assist audit teams with acquiring data from state agencies and other sources including data extraction, transformation and loading to appropriate analytical environment with special considerations for confidential or sensitive data. 
  • Performs detailed analyses of complex data using various state and federal databases for various audit related purposes. Uses SQL or other query/scripting languages to clean and analyze data. Translates complex quantitative and statistical analyses for non-technical staff members. Develops visualizations such as maps, charts, and graphs to communicate results of analysis. 
  • Maintains a working knowledge of statistical methods, in-house computer software, and other technologies sufficient to perform work.
