Celebrating 100 Years of Department of Audits and Accounts

Starting in 1990s, Education clients was organized by geography and served by 9 Regional Offices, including Atlanta.

In December 1923 a bill was created, and Department of Audit and Accounts was created, and the Office assumed the responsibility to audit all accounts and financial records as well as fund and debt transactions of the state government.

Today, the Office continues to fulfill its mission to make government work better by carrying out these critical functions for the Georgia government.

How Do You Become a State Auditor?

The auditor is appointed by the Georgia Legislature by a majority vote of both houses. The governor then administers the oath of office.

What qualifications do you need to be an auditor?

Having a degree in finance or accounting is important for a career as an auditor because many employers list it as one of their minimum requirements. They also prepare you for the role by teaching you many of the important pieces of fundamental knowledge that you utilize on a daily basis.
